IntervalCoach MCP (Model Context Protocol)
IntervalCoach can connect to AI assistants like Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor through an MCP server (Model Context Protocol). Once connected, the assistant can use your IntervalCoach coaching tools and training data directly in its chat β check your training status, review recovery, look at your plan, and create or adjust workouts, all from within your AI assistant.
Who can use it
The MCP connection is a Max-plan feature and is currently an opt-in beta. You'll need:
- An active Max subscription
- The MCP server beta turned on (Settings β Beta)
Turn it on
- Open Settings β Beta in IntervalCoach.
- Enable AI assistant connection (MCP).
Connect from Claude
- In Claude, open Settings β Connectors β Add custom connector.
- Enter the server URL exactly (tip: copy it from Settings β Integrations to avoid typos):
https://www.intervalcoach.app/api/mcp - Claude opens an IntervalCoach authorization screen in your browser. Make sure you're signed in to intervalcoach.app, then click Allow.
- The IntervalCoach tools appear in Claude.
The same steps work in any MCP-compatible client (ChatGPT, Cursor, and others) β add the URL https://www.intervalcoach.app/api/mcp as a custom connector and approve access.
What you can do
The connection exposes the same coaching tools as Coach+, grouped into reads (training status & readiness, recovery, activity details, search history, plan, performance trends, knowledge, coaching memory) and actions (create or modify a workout, manage a race, update settings, regenerate your plan, save or remove coaching notes). Your assistant decides which to use based on what you ask.
Example prompts
- "What's my training readiness today?" β the assistant reads your live fitness (CTL/ATL/TSB), recovery and wellness, and explains your readiness score.
- "When can I do my next hard session?" β it reads your personal recovery curves and returns the next-ready dates per stimulus instead of a generic rule.
- "Compare my last two threshold rides." β it pulls both activities and reports the differences in power, heart rate and TSS.
- "Build me 4Γ8min at threshold for tomorrow." β it creates the workout and adds it to your calendar (you confirm the action in your assistant first).
Known limitations
- Max plan only, and currently a beta β expect occasional rough edges.
- Your assistant does the reasoning on its side, so any usage counts against your AI provider's plan, not IntervalCoach.
- The connection works from MCP-capable clients (Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and similar) on web/desktop. It is configured in the assistant, not inside the IntervalCoach mobile app.
- Actions that change your calendar or settings ask for confirmation in your assistant before they run.
Privacy
Connecting an assistant authorises it to read your training data and use your coaching tools on your behalf; that assistant then processes your data under its own provider's privacy policy. You grant access through a one-time approval and can revoke it anytime (remove the connector in your assistant, or turn the beta off in Settings β Beta). See the IntervalCoach Privacy Policy for details.
