Do I need Intervals.icu? Wahoo, Hammerhead and disconnecting Intervals.icu

You don't need Intervals.icu to use IntervalCoach. What a direct Wahoo or Hammerhead connection covers, what still comes through Intervals.icu, and what happens if you disconnect it.

No. You can create an IntervalCoach account and train with it without an Intervals.icu account. Intervals.icu is one of several services you can connect, and it stays fully supported if you like using it.

Do I need an Intervals.icu account to use IntervalCoach?

No. Sign up with Google, Apple, your email address (we send you a sign-in code) or a passkey. Then connect at least one place your training comes from:

  • Wahoo: rides and runs straight from your ELEMNT, KICKR, RIVAL or the Wahoo app. See "Connecting Wahoo".
  • Hammerhead Karoo: rides straight from your Karoo. See "Connecting Hammerhead".
  • Apple Health (through the iPhone app), Google Health and Whoop for workouts and recovery data such as sleep, HRV and resting heart rate.
  • Your own files: upload a .fit, .tcx or .gpx file whenever you like.
  • Intervals.icu, if you already use it or record with a device that only reaches us through it.

I connected Wahoo or Hammerhead directly. Do I still need Intervals.icu?

Not for that device. A directly connected Wahoo or Karoo sends us each ride as soon as you finish, with the full recording, and we send your planned workouts straight back to it. Intervals.icu plays no part in that.

You only need Intervals.icu for training that reaches us through it, for example:

  • Garmin, Zwift, MyWhoosh, Polar, Suunto, COROS, iGPSPORT and other apps that sync to Intervals.icu. A direct Garmin connection is being tested with a small group; until it opens up for everyone, Garmin sessions come in through Intervals.icu.
  • Planned workouts in Zwift or MyWhoosh, which pick up your sessions from your Intervals.icu calendar.
  • Seeing your plan in Intervals.icu, or subscribing to that calendar in Apple, Google or Outlook Calendar.

What happens if I have both Intervals.icu and a direct connection?

Both work side by side, and nothing changes in your Intervals.icu account.

  • A ride counts once. If the same ride reaches us from your Wahoo or Karoo and from Intervals.icu, we recognise it as one session. It is not counted twice in your training load, your calendar or Coach+.
  • Planned workouts reach your device once. If Intervals.icu already uploads your planned workouts to your Wahoo or Karoo, we leave that to Intervals.icu so you don't get every session twice. If you switch off "Upload planned workouts" for that device in Intervals.icu, we notice within about half an hour and start sending your plan ourselves.

What happens if I disconnect Intervals.icu?

  • Rides from a directly connected Wahoo or Karoo keep coming in, and your planned workouts keep going to it. Disconnecting Intervals.icu, or removing your Wahoo or Karoo from Intervals.icu, does not touch that direct connection.
  • What only came through Intervals.icu stops: new sessions from Garmin, Zwift and other apps synced there, and planned workouts on your Intervals.icu calendar.
  • Your history stays. IntervalCoach keeps its own copy of your training, so sessions already in your training log stay there.

If you first signed up with "Sign in with Intervals.icu": your account still runs through that connection, so keep Intervals.icu connected for now. Add Google, Apple or an email address under Settings → Account → Sign-in methods so you can always sign in another way.

How do I see which services are connected?

Open Settings → Integrations. Each card shows whether a service is connected, what it brings (sessions, your plan, recovery), when it last synced and whether we send your planned workouts there. That page is the reliable answer for your own account: our help center assistant can't see your connections.
